ST. CROIX SCUBA DIVE SITES
Dive sites are listed and described from nearest to our shop to farthest from our shop.
1. FREDERIKSTED PIER
One of the top macro dives anywhere! Scattered ruins are coral encrusted and provide habitat for many types of shallow sea life. This dive is the best place to view sea horses and frogfish! Frederiksted Pier is also an excellent photo dive with views octopus, golden eyed shrimp, parrot fish and eels. An excellent dive for beginners or advanced divers at a max dept of only 35 feet.
2. BUTLER BAY RIDGE
The Butler Bay Ridge is a shallow dive (30ft). This ridge is known for its sting ray activity as there is a cleaning station nearby. This ridge also offers a combination of the Cane Bay Wall and the Frederiksted Pier. Many soft corals, sponges, and fish are enjoyed on this dive. There is a movie prop from the Mel Fisher film story and has been nicknamed "The Jungle Gym". The Jungle Gym swarms with many fish and barracuda are known to visit here.
3. THE WALL AT CANE BAY
Wonderful beach dive!! Wall diving depth is 30'-18,000'! This wall dive is right off the Puerto Rican Trench, the second deepest trench in the world. Beautiful corals, including black coral, create a garden which can be viewed at 30'. This is a great spot to spot small caribbean reef sharks. Also massive schools of black durgon, tangs and a numerous amount of damsels inhabit the water above the reef. This area is teeming with fish and wildlife. You'll likely also run into one of the resident green sea turtles resting and eating off the reef. If you choose this beach dive you can also enjoy relaxing on the beach in between dives.
4. Northstar
This dive site is part of the Cane Bay Wall System and is more pristine than Cane Bay. While swimming out to the marker buoy, take a look and you may spy some beautiful elkhorn coral structures. Sea Fans, Whip coral, Rock Beauties, Black Tipped Reef Sharks, are just a few of the many wonders you will see while diving this site.
5. The Jungle
A nice coral reef system teeming with life. Large sea fans, large schools of Black Durgon as well as many other fish species swim here, Pillar coral, Lettuce coral, Sea plumes, Great star coral, Flamingo tongues. This site is located west of Northstar and requires a longer swim to the descent point.
